Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to Sasha Osypenko’s page – a career and integration coach working with Ukrainian-speaking clients around the world. This FAQ covers the most common questions people have before starting coaching: how sessions work, what to expect, pricing, and logistics. General Questions About Coaching

What is career coaching and how can it help me?

Career coaching is a personalized process in which a specialist helps you identify your potential, find a solid foundation, and move in a clearly defined direction. In practice, this means support during a career transition, developing leadership skills, building a strong set of job application documents, and creating a clear vision for your professional future – especially in the context of building a new life in a new country.

How is coaching different from therapy?

The key difference is focus. Coaching is future-oriented: it sets goals, builds strategies, and drives action. Psychotherapy goes deeper into the past and works through underlying emotional experiences. Consulting provides ready-made expert solutions for a specific problem. All three can complement each other depending on your needs.

Is this more about psychology or career?

Short answer: it’s about career – but through the lens of the whole person. I’m not a psychologist and I don’t replace therapy. We don’t unpack deep personal topics just for the sake of emotions. But I also don’t ignore what’s happening internally – because career decisions are almost always connected to how you see yourself, what you believe, and what you fear. You come with a goal – to find a job, change direction, prepare for an interview. We work on it concretely: strategy, documents, next steps. If a fear or inner block comes up along the way, we treat it as an obstacle on the path to your goal.

Is coaching right for me if I don’t know what I want to do yet?

Yes – and that’s actually one of the most common starting points. Not knowing “who I want to be” is not a barrier to coaching; it’s the starting point. This is especially true if you’ve recently moved to a new country: relocation often disrupts your professional identity, and the feeling of “I don’t know who I am here” is a completely normal response, not a weakness. In the three-session program “Career Orientation & Competency Analysis,” we begin with a deep exploration of your strengths, values, and what truly energizes you. By the end of three sessions, you’ll have not just a “list of options” – but a clear direction and concrete first steps.

When is coaching NOT the right fit?

Honest answer – coaching won’t deliver results if: you’re expecting someone else to do the work for you (the process requires active engagement between sessions); you’re currently in an acute psychological crisis (in that case, it’s better to first work with a mental health professional to stabilize); you need highly specialized expert advice outside my area – for example, legal or tax questions specific to your country of residence. If you’re unsure – come to the free first meeting and we’ll figure it out together.

How do I choose a career coach?

Look at the coach’s real-world experience in the area where you need support and check their professional qualifications. Always take advantage of a trial session – that’s when you get a real feel for whether there’s a connection and whether the conversation is actually helpful. If you leave the first session with more clarity than you came in with – that’s already a good sign.

Who Is Coaching For?

Who will benefit most from your services?

Coaching is a great fit for experienced professionals who have hit a ceiling in their current role, people entering the job market after university, first-time managers, active job seekers – and anyone who feels it’s time to make a change but doesn’t know where to start.

Do you support professionals who have relocated to another country?

Yes – this is one of the core areas of my work. People who find themselves in a new country face very specific challenges: an unfamiliar job market, different professional norms, language barriers, and a feeling of being invisible as a specialist. Coaching helps you navigate all of this – from rediscovering your professional value to building a concrete job search strategy and adapting your documents to the new market.

Can you help with transitioning from academia to industry?

Yes. Moving from a university or research environment into industry is often a real leap into the unknown. Through coaching, we work on translating academic competencies into the language of the job market, crafting documents tailored to specific roles, and preparing a confident self-presentation for interviews.

Can you help with changing career direction?

Yes. A career change is one of the most common requests I get. The process starts with a deep analysis of your strengths and transferable skills, followed by an exploration of realistic transition paths, and then a step-by-step action plan.

Do you work with clients whose German isn’t at a professional level yet?

Yes – and that’s one of the reasons sessions are available in three languages: Ukrainian, English, and German. If your German is still developing, we work in whichever language lets you think and speak most freely about what matters. At the same time, if your goal is to find work in Germany, we build a tailored self-presentation strategy for that market. Your language level is one factor in the strategy – not a reason to put your career development on hold.

Do you work with clients outside Germany?

Yes, all sessions are online – so location doesn’t matter. Clients come from many countries: Ukraine, Spain, the Netherlands, and beyond. We simply choose a time that works across time zones.

Do you work with people experiencing burnout or high stress?

Yes – and this is one of the most common situations I encounter. Burnout and stress often go hand-in-hand with career questions, especially in the context of migration and resettlement. I’m not a psychotherapist and I don’t treat burnout as a clinical condition. But I understand very well how it affects your ability to think about your career and make decisions. In these cases, we move more slowly, start small, and first rebuild your sense of professional self-worth – before moving on to strategy. If the burnout is severe, I may recommend working with a therapist in parallel.

Areas and Formats of Work

What language are sessions conducted in?

Sessions are available in three languages of your choice: Ukrainian, English, or German.

How do you support junior managers in developing leadership skills?

Stepping into a management role is not just a new title – it’s a fundamentally different way of thinking and acting. When working with first-time managers, we develop strategic thinking, build a personal management style, work through complex communication scenarios – from sensitive conversations to conflict situations – and map out a long-term career growth strategy.

Do you help people who are actively job searching?

Yes. Job searching is a process that requires strategy – not just sending out resumes. Support includes creating and refining documents, optimizing your LinkedIn profile for your target employers, and preparing for various interview formats.

Do you help prepare for interviews at German companies?

Yes – and preparation genuinely changes the outcome here. We work on structuring answers to both typical and unexpected questions, presenting yourself with confidence, and handling tricky topics – like a career gap due to relocation, switching industries, or your language level. We also look specifically at the culture of German-style interviews, which really does differ from what most people are used to. Interview preparation is included in the Professional Package and Career Mentorship programs, and is also available as part of a single session.

Do you help adapt a CV for the German job market?

Yes – and this is often one of the first requests. A German resume (Lebenslauf) follows its own logic, structure, and expectations that differ significantly from a Ukrainian or internationally-formatted CV. I don’t just “edit” – we work together on how to present your experience so it reads as strong and relevant for this specific market. Document work is included in the Professional Package and Career Mentorship programs, with quick feedback also available in a single session.

What if I have a large gap in my work history due to relocation?

This is one of the most common situations – and one where people tend to undervalue themselves the most. A gap caused by relocation is not a “hole in your resume.” It’s a period of adapting to a new country, learning a language, building a life from scratch. That’s real experience with real skills – and it can and should be presented confidently. We work on how to explain this period without apologizing – both on paper and in interviews.

Can you help with the recognition of a foreign degree (Anerkennung) in Germany?

I want to be upfront about this. Anerkennung is an official bureaucratic process, and I’m not a legal consultant in that area. But where I can genuinely help: understanding how your education and experience are perceived on the German job market – regardless of the formal status of your diploma. People often overestimate the importance of Anerkennung and underestimate their transferable skills. We work on positioning you strongly right now, whether the recognition process is ongoing or happening in parallel.

Do you work with corporate clients or accept payment from employers?

Yes. I work with corporate clients and offer both individual coaching for employees and team programs – focused on leadership development, onboarding new managers, feedback culture, and team effectiveness. If you’re interested in this format, reach out and we can discuss the details.

How Sessions Work

How long is a single coaching session?

A standard session is 60 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the depth of your goals and your pace. As a general guide: for most people, 5–10 sessions is enough to see real progress. For specific tasks, there are structured packages with a clear number of sessions and defined outcomes.

Will sessions be tailored to my specific needs?

Yes, every session is built around the individual. There are no cookie-cutter scripts – just a live, responsive dialogue focused on your goals, pace, and context.

What does a typical session look like? What should I expect the first time?

The free first session (20 minutes) is a getting-to-know-you conversation. I’ll ask about your situation, what brought you here, and what’s weighing on you most right now. No sales pitch, no pressure – you share, I listen and ask a few questions. At the end, we figure out together whether it makes sense to continue and in what format. A full session (60 minutes) has its own structure: we start by clarifying what we’re working on today, I ask questions that help you see your situation from a new angle, and we close by capturing insights and identifying one concrete next step. After the first full session, most clients say the same thing: “I didn’t expect it to be this concrete.”

Do I need to prepare anything before a session?

Short answer: no. But a little reflection makes the session more useful. You don’t need presentations or perfectly worded questions. The one thing that genuinely helps: before the session, briefly think about what’s taking up the most space in your head right now. Literally one sentence to yourself – it helps you get straight to the point. After each session, there will be a small, concrete next step that you choose yourself – not “homework,” but an action that makes sense to you and moves you forward.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

If you need to reschedule, just let me know in advance and we’ll find another time that works. I value mutual respect for each other’s time, so I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice. In true emergencies, we can always work something out. Details are confirmed individually when booking.

How are sessions held?

All sessions are online – via Zoom or Google Meet, whichever is more convenient for you. A link is sent after booking is confirmed. Nothing extra needs to be installed – just a browser and a stable internet connection. For a comfortable session, I’d recommend finding a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted.

Results & Progress

How do I know the investment will be worth it?

Coaching is an investment that pays off through a change in mindset, the quality of your decisions, and your external circumstances. Simple logic: if you’re currently not working or not working in your field – even one additional month’s salary in a qualified position covers the cost of any program. If you’re already working but aiming for a higher role – the salary difference between your current and target position often far exceeds the cost of coaching. There’s also something harder to measure: time. Most clients spent months on scattered, unfocused efforts before we started working together. Coaching shortens that path through structure, strategy, and focus.

How quickly will I see the first results?

The first noticeable shift – clarity and a new perspective on your situation – most clients feel after the first or second session. Concrete external results – a job offer, a new role, launching a business – take longer. Here’s a rough timeline: 3 sessions → clarity and direction; 5–8 sessions → strategy, documents, first real steps in the market; 2 months of active work → visible changes in external outcomes. Most importantly: results come when you act between sessions. Coaching accelerates the journey – but it doesn’t replace your own steps.

How is progress measured?

We track progress on several levels simultaneously. Concrete actions: what was planned after the last session – what got done. External indicators: number of applications sent, responses received, interview invitations. Internal shifts: how your sense of yourself as a professional has changed, your confidence level, clarity about direction. If after a few sessions there’s no movement on any of these levels – that’s a signal to reassess the approach, not to keep going through the motions.

What if I don’t see progress after a few sessions?

My position is simple: if something isn’t working, we talk about it openly and change the approach. But there’s an important nuance: progress doesn’t always look the way we expect it to. Sometimes after the second session a client says “I haven’t done anything yet” – but actually they’ve felt clarity for the first time in months and stopped their chaotic, unfocused activity. That’s also progress. If after three or four sessions you feel like we’re going in circles – tell me directly. We’ll either restructure the work, or I’ll be honest if a different type of support is what you need. What matters to me is your result – not the number of sessions completed.

Will I have an action plan after sessions?

Yes – and that’s one of the key differences from “just talking.” Every session ends with a concrete next step that you identify yourself. In multi-session programs, a full strategy is built: with priorities, a clear logic of steps, and an understanding of what and why. By the end of our work together, you won’t just have “new thoughts about yourself” – you’ll have actual documents, a job search strategy, interview preparation, or a clear direction. I structure our work so that after the final session you can move forward independently – knowing where you’re going, why, and how.

Do you guarantee employment after the program?

No – and I won’t promise that, because it would be dishonest. No responsible coach can guarantee a job offer: the job market, economic conditions, your industry, your willingness to act between sessions – all of this is outside my control. What I do guarantee: full presence and commitment in every session, honest feedback even when it’s uncomfortable, and a concrete strategy and documents that actually work. Client outcomes are the result of our shared work and their own actions. Not a guarantee – a partnership.

Psychological Comfort & Trust

What if I find it hard to open up or talk about myself?

You don’t need to arrive “open” or know what to say or how to say it. My job is to create a space where that happens naturally – without pressure or judgment. We move at your pace. The first session is introductory: it helps you connect not just with me, but with what it is you actually want to change. I’ve been through the experience of moving to a new country myself – and I know how difficult it can be to talk about yourself in a new context. So safety and trust aren’t just words for me – they’re the foundation of how I work. If after the first session you feel it’s not for you, you have absolutely no obligation to continue.

What if I’ve had a negative experience with a coach or therapist before?

More than half of my clients come to me after working with other coaches – often frustrated, because elsewhere they got conversations without concrete outcomes. People come to me through referrals, because they know my approach and my own experience of building a career in a new country. I don’t run “motivational talks” and I don’t work from a template. Every session is built around your specific situation, your goals, and your pace. And if I see that you need something different – I’ll say so directly, rather than continuing sessions just for the sake of it. That’s exactly why there’s a free first meeting – so you can experience the approach before making any commitment.

Is everything we discuss confidential?

Yes – and this isn’t just a formality; it’s the foundation of the work. Everything you share in sessions stays between us. I don’t share client information with third parties, I don’t use details of your situation in public content without your explicit consent, and I don’t keep recordings of conversations. Any case studies on the website are generalized stories published only with client consent. If you’re in an unstable or sensitive situation – that’s precisely why it’s safe to speak openly here.

Pricing & Financial Questions

Are there more affordable options for a limited budget?

Yes – the range of services is intentionally structured so you can start small. The lowest entry point is a free 20-minute session: a real conversation about your situation that will already leave you with more clarity. Next is a single session at €120, ideal if you have a specific question or want to experience the format. If your budget is very limited, there’s also a group Mastermind: the most accessible way to get structured support and share experiences with people in similar situations. Starting with just one session is completely normal. No pressure to commit to a full program right away.

Is installment payment possible?

Yes, it’s possible to spread payments if needed. Write to me directly – we’ll find a format that works for you financially. Also worth knowing: if you’re registered with the Jobcenter or Agentur für Arbeit in Germany, you may be able to receive coaching for free through an educational voucher (Bildungsgutschein).

Can I get an invoice (Rechnung) for tax or employer purposes?

Yes, no problem. An official Rechnung is issued for every paid service. If you’re paying personally, the invoice can be used for your German tax return, as professional development costs (Fortbildungskosten) are often tax-deductible. If your employer is paying, the invoice can be issued to the company. Details are worked out individually.

For Clients in Germany with an Educational Voucher (Bildungsgutschein)

What is the Bildungsgutschein (educational voucher)?

The Bildungsgutschein is a government support program in Germany administered through the Jobcenter or Agentur für Arbeit. It provides funding for training, coaching, or courses needed to return to the job market or change professional direction. For clients, this means the possibility of attending coaching completely free of charge – with the costs covered by the state.

Contact & Reviews

Where can I find you on social media?

I’m active in several places – choose what works best for you. On Instagram, I regularly share practical tips on job searching, career transitions, and integrating into a new country – a great way to get a feel for my approach before the first session. On Facebook, you can follow announcements of events and group formats. LinkedIn is my professional page, where you can see my experience, client recommendations, and professional articles. TikTok is for those who prefer short video content – I cover topics that rarely get talked about openly. Threads is for more informal conversation and short written thoughts. And even Pinterest – where I curate inspiration and useful resources on career and personal development topics. Links to all platforms are on the website.

Do you have a blog?

Yes – and it’s one of the most useful resources for anyone just starting to navigate a career in Germany. I write practical articles based on real client experiences and my own work: what the Bildungsgutschein is and how to get one, what a proper Lebenslauf looks like by German standards, how to optimize your LinkedIn so recruiters can find you, how to explain a career gap due to relocation, and much more. These aren’t generic tips from the internet – they’re concrete things that actually matter in the German job market. Bookmark the blog and check back regularly – new content is published frequently.

You can read the career coach’s blog here.

Where can I read reviews of your work?

The most comprehensive collection of reviews is on my LinkedIn page under “Recommendations.” Clients describe their experience in their own words, and the reviews are verified by the platform – confirming they’re from real people. There are also reviews on Instagram in the Highlights section – short client stories in the form of screenshots and messages. If you want to understand what actually changes after working with me – I’d recommend reading both: LinkedIn offers more detail and context, Instagram gives you a more immediate, human sense of the process.

Didn’t find an answer to your question? Write to me directly – as a career coach, I reply personally and will help you make sense of your specific situation. Sometimes the most important question is exactly the one that doesn’t appear on any list.
